While many a sarpanch have managed to retain their seats along the coastal belt, the voting trend indicates that a number of sitting sarpanchas and panchas have been shown the door by the voters this time round. Take the case of the Carmona panchayat. While Sarpanch Sandra Fernandes won the seat, a couple of sitting panchas including Prisco, Carlos and Xavier lost the election to new comers.
In Assolna, the voters have virtually preferred for new faces as they rejected siting sarpanch Pedrina Cardozo, deputy sarpanch Jayant Arolkar, and panchas Savio Ferreira, Peter Crasto, Framila Almeida in the election.
In coastal Benaulim, sarpanch Remy Fernandes retained his seat with a thin margin, while his Colva counterpart Menino Fernandes also emerged victorious with a comfortable margin. Seraulim sarpanch Leslie Dourado and Joseph Vaz (Rachol) have retained their seats. Sitting Paroda sarpanch Deepak Kharangate retained his seat, even as his panel swept the election this time round.
Other sitting sarpanchas, who have lost the election, includes Lucy Rebello (Curtorim), Velim Sarpanch Melvyn Sanches, Dramapur-Sirlim sarpanch Bernard Rebello and Ambelim sarpanch Sofia Rebello.
Incidentally, noted tiatrist Menino de Bandar made it to the Benaulim panchayat in style by winning the seat for the four consecutive term.
