Arunachal Pradesh government today suspended the officer-in-charge of Tawang police station along with a sub inspector and five constables who were held responsible for negligence of duty during the police firing at anti-dam activists there on May 2 that claimed two lives.
The state government suspended the police personnel after the report of the one-man committee was submitted by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Jang.
The government had constituted a magisterial committee to probe into the circumstances which led to the police firing on protesters who gheraoed Tawang police station on the day demanding release of anti-dam activist Lama Lobsang Gyatso.
Deputy Chief Minister Kameng Dolo in a statement here said the police personnel were suspended as they were held responsible for negligence of duty during the firing incident by the inquiry officer.
The firing was unjustified as the force had failed to follow all the standard operating procedures for using firearms in dispersal of the group who attacked the police and tried to forcefully take away Gyatso from police custody.
Dolo, who also holds the Home portfolio, said deployment of paramilitary forces should continue for some time till the situation becomes normal in Tawang.
