Verna police have recorded the statements of minor girl students who were allegedly molested by a 32-year-old conductor of a Balrath school bus, as part of the ongoing investigation into the case involving several victims.
According to sources, the case was brought to the notice of Verna police on Saturday afternoon, following which an offence was registered considering the seriousness of the allegations and the involvement of multiple minor students who had allegedly faced inappropriate behaviour over a prolonged period.
Police have already recorded the statements of the girl students and initiated a detailed investigation. The accused is suspected to have been associated with the school for nearly 10 years.
“We have registered an offence and recorded the statements of the girl students. The accused is believed to have been associated with the school for around 10 years. We have already served him a notice for interrogation, and the notice has been delivered. He is most likely to report at the police station on Monday, when we will record his statement as well,” a police source said.
The source further stated that since the alleged offences attract punishment below seven years, the police were required to follow the prescribed procedure and could not make an automatic arrest. The accused has therefore been served a notice to appear for questioning.
Police said the investigation was examining all aspects of the allegations, including the period over which the alleged incidents took place.
