From Goa to the globe: OPSPL recognised as Tech Legend

Founded by Cyntia Antao, Arvind Yadav andAmerico (Ricky) Noronha in 1995, OPSPL is Goa’s second oldest IT company thathas been providing clients and partners across the globe with custom ITsolutions for over three decades. Founder director Americo (Ricky) Noronharecalls the spark that lit the flame, and how his company emerged at a timewhen Goa’s IT industry was still in its infancy, in 1995. “It seemed like anice, new and exciting field at that time, “The PC was just making an entranceinto the IT scene and computers were moving from the lab to the desktop.”

With vision and determination, the companysought to bridge global tech needs with local ingenuity. “Starting from a smallsetup, the focus was always on quality, reliability, and delivering tailoreddigital solutions. Indeed, the early years were challenging — building trust,infrastructure, and market awareness. But every hurdle was a stepping stone,reinforcing OPSPL’s resolve to build not just a company, but a lastinginstitution,” shared Noronha.

Goa to the globe

While firmly grounded in Goa, OPSPL rapidlyextended its impact to international markets. Over the years, it has servedclients from a diverse range of industries including healthcare, logistics, education,real estate, and finance. The company handled the first-ever outsourced Goaproject, back in 1998, for a Brazilian IT Company, funded by the Braziliangovernment Softex 2000 initiative and won awards for the project at CeBitHanover. IT was the first Goan IT company to be Microsoft Gold Partners back in2000 and has also Listed Linux, PostgreSQL and MySQL partners for support ofthese important FOSS Systems.

Whether it was a custom business platform or asecure data management solution, OPSPL was linked with precision. Clients fromthe UK, USA, Australia, and other nations rely on their digital expertise whichis an example that Goa's IT visionaries can lead the world.

Initial journey

Recalling the initial days, Noronha adds thatfor the first few years of his IT career, he was in training and headed theNIIT Goa Centres set-up at the height of the IT education boom in India andtrained a lot of capable Goan youth. It was here that he heard one complaintfrom the youth that ‘there are no jobs’ for them in Goa! The other directors inthe company too were also involved in training and felt the same way.

“We were friends and felt we had to do somethingin Goa for Goa and Goans. Even way-back-then, with just a handful of trained ITprofessionals it seemed silly to have all IT professionals leave Goa in searchof jobs and then come-back to Goa, hired by and posted here by Pune and Delhicompanies – that’d employed them.”

For the first decade ours was a loss makingcompany and at times we even faced difficulties paying staff salaries. “We’vecome through all of that now. Thanks to our single-minded determination to ‘dothe best job possible’ above all else! We started with just enough money toprint a set of company visiting cards and letterheads to give proposals tocorporate. We worked for the first two years from a friend’s office in Margao.They were kind enough to take messages for us. All three of us come from anon-entrepreneurial background. It was a huge risk we were taking and we knewit. Today 100% of the work we do is by word of mouth and recommendations fromexisting clients,” shares Noronha.

Overcoming the initial hiccups, OPSPL has beendelivering end-to-end IT solutions with professionalism and precision from itsbase in Goa for the past three decades. We are indeed Goa's OLDEST IT solutions company. Theonly other older one (Friends at M/s Progen Systems, Ponda) - were a purelyproduct based company - with their Pharma IT product.”

OPSPL handles conceptualisation, development,testing, implementation and on-going support and maintenance for cloud-systemsprojects for clients and partners across the globe and any Goan company thatmay need help. “We have also handled Android, iOs and other Mobile platformsystems development and can do so for businesses. But we prefer that themany-many local start-ups handle this, now. We work with any platform andtechnology required – to ensure we can deliver what’s required by theend-client,” says Noronha.

Opportunities for interns

“We work with anyone and everyone, welcomefreshers and have bright students with degrees in IT from almost all collegesin Goa working with us. We provide internship opportunities to all IT studentswho need it since inception. Agreed, we have our limitations for capacity– butwe do select the most suitable ones, based entirely on merit,” asserts Noronha.

Interns get an opportunity to work on live,global projects.
