New Delhi President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, besides a host of leaders condoled the loss of lives Sunday in the train accident in UP's Kanpur Dehat district.

“I am sad to learn about the accident in which many have lost their lives and a number of persons are injured. I am sure that the state government is providing all possible assistance to the bereaved families as well as medical aid to the injured,” Mukherjee said in a message to Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik.

Ansari said, “I convey my heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved families and pray to the Almighty to give them strength and fortitude to withstand this immense loss. I also wish speedy recovery to the injured passengers.”

The Prime Minister in a tweet said, “Anguished beyond words on the loss of lives due to the derailing of the Patna-Indore express. My thoughts are with the bereaved families.” He said Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu is personally monitoring the situation and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of those killed and Rs 50,000 for those seriously injured in the mishap from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.

Helplines for victim kins

Patna: The East Central Railway (ECR) Sunday issued helpline numbers at Mughalsarai, Patna and Hajipur for help in the wake of the derailment of Indore-Patna Express in which over 100 passengers were killed and more than 200 others injured in Uttar Pradesh early Sunday.

The landline helpline number for Patna BSNL is- 0612-2202290/0612-2202291/0612-2202292, an ECR statement said here.

The mobile number for help at Patna junction is 7992388463 and Railway-025-83288, Chief Public Relations Officer. For Mugalsarai the numbers are BSNL- 05412-251258 and 05412-254145. For Hajipur, it is BSNL 06224-272230. General Manager of ECR D K Gayen himself is monitoring arrangements.

Israeli President condoles loss of lives

Chandigarh: Israeli President Reuven Rivlin Sunday condoled the loss of lives in the derailment of Indore- Patna Express near Kanpur.

“Let me start by expressing my heartfelt and deepest condolences on the tragic train accident that happened today. I would like to convey to all the families who lost their dears condolences to say how sorry we are,” Rivlin said here.

Sonowal condoles loss of lives

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Sunday condoled the death of over 100 people in a train accident in Kanpur.

In a statement, Sonowal said he was pained by the loss of so many lives due to the derailment. “I wish speedy recovery of the injured,” he said...........

Speaker calls up rail minister

Indore: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan Sunday called up Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu and took stock of the relief and rescue operation at the derailment site of the Indore-Patna Express at Kanpur.

Mahajan is an MP from Indore. Her private staff helped the relatives of either those who were killed or injured in the mishap.

They also aided people who had rushed to the Railway Station to know the whereabouts of their kin, an officer working at Mahajan's local office told PTI.

Besides, Mahajan has rushed two officers of her staff to Kanpur at the derailment site to help the victims.

MP CM announces financial assistance

Kanpur: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited hospitals in Kanpur city and announced financial assistance to the kin of the deceased and those injured in the derailment of Indore-Patna Express, state minister Narottam Mishra informed.

Visiting the injured at Ursula and Hallet Hospitals in Kanpur in the afternoon, Chouhan announced Rs 2 lakh assistance to the kin of each the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. He also said the grievously injured will be taken to Bhopal if they want. Mishra himself visited the Mati mortuary in Kanpur rural where bodies of the accident victims are kept.

4 trains cancelled, 14 diverted

Allahabad: The Indian Railways Sunday cancelled four trains and diverted 14 others following the derailment of Indore-Patna Express in Pukhrayan in Kanpur. Jhansi-Lucknow Intercity (11110, 11109), Jhansi-Kanpur passenger (51804, 51803) were cancelled, an official release said.

While 14 trains, Lucknow-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (12108), Varanasi-Ahmedabad Sabarmati Express (19168), Gorakhpur- Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Kushinagar Express (11015, 11016), Kolkata-Jhansi (11105), Chhatrapati Shivaji terminus-Lucknow Pushpak Express (12534), Gwalior-Barauni Mail (11124, 11123), Lucknow-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express (12108), Gorakhpur-Yashwantpur Express (15015), Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Gorakhpur Express (12542), Bhopal-Lucknow Express (12594), Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Pratapgarh Express (12173), Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Sultanpur Express (12143) have been diverted.

At least 116 passengers were killed and more than 200 injured, nearly half of them grievously, in the worst train accident in recent years when 14 coaches of Indore-Patna Express derailed here in Kanpur rural area in the wee hours on Sunday due to suspected rail fracture.
