The Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) on Monday evening launched a fully integrated RFID gate access system across all entry and exit points of the port, aiming to enhance security and streamline vehicle movement.

The system was inaugurated by MPA Chairman Dr N Vinodkumar in the presence of Traffic Manager Capt Himanshu Shekhar, Senior Deputy Traffic Manager Jerome Clement, officials of MPA, and personnel from the CISF.

Speaking to the media after the inauguration, Dr Vinodkumar said the system marks a technological milestone for the port by becoming the first of its kind to be integrated with the Government of India’s Vaahan portal.

“The RFID system will help the port identify the correct type of vehicle, and this is the first time such a system has been integrated with the Vaahan portal,” said Dr Vinodkumar.

“This integration allows us to obtain accurate, real-time data directly from the Government portal — including vehicle registration, pollution certification, driver information, and cargo details.”

Highlighting the benefits, he explained that the new system would verify the authenticity of critical documents.

“The data accessed through the RFID scan is in real time. So, if any certificate, like the PUC, has expired, the system will immediately trigger an alert. This enables us to halt the vehicle and ask for updated documentation,” Dr Vinodkumar added.

He noted that the system would significantly reduce manual intervention and enhance operational efficiency at the port.

“When a vehicle arrives or exits, it does not need to stop at the gate. All relevant details will be available to CISF security personnel upon scanning the RFID card,” he said. “It’s a brilliant system that minimises the need for additional manpower while improving the overall monitoring and management of vehicles entering and exiting the port.”
