Over 1.7 lakh votes were recorded to recognize 20 young talents
People voted for their favourite contestants from 60 nominations shortlisted by jury panel comprising 8 eminent personalities
State Bank of India, celebrated the talent of young superstars who are transforming society with their skills and expertise with ‘YONO SBI 20 Under Twenty’ awards. 19 years old Zuleika Juliet Antao “Inventor of hermetia sanitizing bioconverter, emerged as the winners of this title.
Zuleika Juliet Antao and her mother Dr Suvarna Fonsecae Antao are making waves nationwide. With the help of her mother, who is an environmentalist and a homeopathy doctor, she took up the challenge to keep her backyard clean by using the naturally available products which can biodegrade any form of kitchen garbage. For this purpose, she used the black housefly to increase the efficiency of eco-friendly bio-convertion and composting. She made a science project that aims to get rid of biodegradable waste as fast as possible.
Her work in the field was first noticed when she participated in the “Inspire science project and exhibition competition” in Goa in July 2014 where she went on to winning the first prize at the state and national level. The officials of the Union ministry of science and technology have decided to patent the method and the bio-converting composting unit.
The winners were chosen through public voting that counted to more than 1.7 lakh in 10 diverse categories such as sustainability, performing arts, acting, entrepreneurship or innovation, sports, global Indian, disability champion among others. The nominations were shortlisted by an esteemed jury panel of 8 eminent personalities including bollywood actress Dia Mirza, sports journalist Boria Majumdar, Sashi Sreedharan, managing director, Microsoft India, Dilip Asbe, Managing director, NPCI, Mallika Dua, social media influencer, among others.
