Thisbypass opened on December 23, 2009 was meant to ease congested traffic andcause fewer mishaps on the old road from Agassaim to Goa Velha. It has in turn made traffic gohaywire and at full speed. With major traffic hazards and no over to checkrampant driving violations, the bypass has become a death point.
18people have died, five of them last week, including four boys in their twentiesfrom Gujarat who had just arrived to celebrate the birthday of their friendRohit Shah.
Thebypass fails in all aspects. Poor road design, absence of traffic control andcritical lack of planning is evident. Added to his is the complete absence oftraffic sense of commuters, making the Agassaim bypass a death trap.
Thisvisual package explains why the bypass must be closed till corrections aremade. At the same we the people must realise that blaming the government won’tdo. We are killing ourselves and our families by throwing traffic norms to thewind.
