Margao traffic going the wrong way

Margao reeling under problems of traffic violations, citizens blame traffic cell

Margao traffic going the wrong way

Margao’s biggest woes have been its problem of trafficcongestion and parking problems. To add to the existing traffic mess of Margaois the violation of traffic rule by individuals, which has caused manyaccidents in the past and is a huge threat to those driving.

“People keep zooming on the wrong side of the Gogol-Aquembypass, the opposite direction of the one-way route at the Fatorda-Bordajunction or even at Pajifond junction leading up to the mosque. When a driveris at the wheels on a one-way, he or she is never geared up for someone comingon the no-entry. I requested the traffic authorities in Margao need to lookinto this mess,” stated a resident.

Traffic Cell constable Vinod Naik, who stands at theBorda-Fatorda one-way route every morning, stated, “We use to stand in themiddle of the junction to book people for traffic rules violation but then thelocals of the lane itself didn’t want us to be positioned there as we wereinconveniencing them by booking them. They have now pleaded to us to bestationed at the start of the lane.”

Borda resident Jose Maria Miranda pointed out, “I wasrecently booked for a traffic violation at the airport. I admitted my mistakeand accepted to pay my fine but the problem is that the signboard was in DevanagriKonkani.”Miranda believes that a state like Goa where a lot of tourist andmigrant population come on work, are the biggest violators of traffic rules.“The mistake lies with the traffic cell. Most no-entry roads of Margao do nothave signboards. Signboards again should be a standard international trafficsign. Nowadays a lot of private companies sponsor these boards which aresmaller in size and of different languages which doesn’t really solve theproblem of traffic violations”

“Our traffic cell constables continuously patrol the cityand we book violators on a timely basis. But we are no position to stop trafficviolations completely. People do not have traffic ethics and want to find ashort-cut route. We try our best to curb them,” stated Traffic PI, Margao Town,Roy Perreira.
