The waters from the Tillaridam has served drinking and industrial purpose of Goa but the promises made tothe people who were displaced from the dam site are yet to be fulfilled.
Tillari dam was ajoint project between the Maharashtra and Goa government. The dam is situated inthe Dodamarg village of the Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra.
Though the dam is inMaharashtra much of the water is being used by Goa, as both Maharashtra and Goagovernment had an agreement wherein it was decided that Goa would get 74percent of the water share. Consequently it was also agreed that Goa governmentwould bear 74% of the cost of the project.
In Goa the water ofthe dam is used for supplying drinking water to North Goa and industrialpurpose. Water is also used for irrigation purpose.
Though the dam wasconstructed in Dodamarg taluka the water is hardly of any use to the peopleliving in Dodamarg.
The families who wereaffected because of the construction of the dam were promised government jobs.But 28 years after the completion of the dam most of the families are yet toget jobs promised by both the governments.
10.02 mega-watts ofpower has been generated through this dam, but no one knows who makes use ofthe power.
Tillari dam is as bigas the Talaba dam in Sindhudurg district. Although the project was conceived in1978-79 at an estimated cost of Rs 45.20 crore, work on the dam commenced onlyin 1980 and was finally completed in 2009. By then the cost of the project wentup to a whopping Rs 1612.15 crore.
This water fromTillari dam is supplied to Goa through the right bank main canal and left bankmain canal.
