A resident of Ponda Hemant Sawant has challenged the promotion Dr Pradip Naik as Goa Medical College Dean through a petition in the Bombay High Court which argues that his initial promotion as lecturer way back in 1985 had violated promotion rules.
Sawant has placed documents obtained under the RTI Act before the court and alleged the initial promotion of Dr Naik as lecturer was done illegally. As the initial promotion itself is illegal, his promotion as the Dean is also illegal, the petition states.
Goa government, health secretary, All India Medical Institute chairman and Goa public service commission have been named as respondents in the case.
Dr Naik had joined the GMC on March 21, 1984, as resident doctor. After a year on April 4, 1985, he was appointed as lecturer. The petition claims that a practicing doctor needs three years’ experience to occupy lecturer’s post.
