Taunting his former party, Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho on Monday evening said it was a joke of sorts that a political party was staking claim to form the government without having the required numbers.
Godinho was speaking to reporters along the sidelines of a function to inaugurate the long-pending demand of the Traffic Circle with traffic signals at the Vales Junction in Dabolim.
“They have remained static with 16 (MLAs). When the alliance partners and independents have reposed faith in Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and professed support to the BJP, where is the change in circumstances for them to stake claim,” asked Godinho.
Godinho also clarified that there was no difference of opinion among alliance partners and said legislators of both coalition parties were present for the swearing-in ceremony.
“In politics, it is not possible to make 100 per cent of the people happy. There will be heartburns and some people may not be fitted in certain position. But it has to be accepted for the sake of good governance,” added Godinho.
Godinho also insisted that the government was very stable. “Some people are trying to assess the sickness of Parrikar in terms of performance and functioning of the government, which is not fair and we have to give him some time to recover. The CM is trying to correct the system of administration and will further distribute portfolios. There is no vacancy for the post of the CM. There will be further fine-tuning in due course of time,” added Godinho.
Meanwhile, President of Vidhyanagar Colony, Eddie Fernandes expressed his gratitude to Godinho for inaugurating the traffic signals and circle at Vales Junction.
“Earlier, motorists and commuters had to go all the way to MES college junction and negotiate a turn to come on the other side of the road,” said Fernandes.
