Only a day after China and India withdrew from the frontlines of Doklam, the other neighbour sparked strange controversy. A letter surfaced in the media where Pakistan's former ambassador to India Abdul Basit called his counterpart in Washington DC Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry, as the ‘worst foreign secretary ever'. This raised a lot of eyebrows. The war of words printed on official government letterhead revolved around Aizaz's capacity to handle the position he was in. Basit pointed to issues like Ufa attacks and Pakistan's defeat at the Human Right Council as an outcome to Aizaz's lenient approach and representation of his country. One thing is for sure, something's not going down too well within Pakistan's foreign ministry. This further goes to show that Pakistan is aware that Ufa was a very serious issue, and not taking responsibility was not going to douse the fire. Aizaz, on the other hand, has refused to reply to the ‘disgusting letter'. The Islamic republic has long tried to pretend it has an unblemished image but alas not every official is well-versed with the drills where they are required to push such issues under the carpet. Indeed it's a delicate profession for people like Aizaz and Basit who try to keep the slate clean, but are surely having a tough time running a tight ship.
