Various varieties of packaging such as plastic, glass, aluminum foils, tetra packs and corrugated boxes are being used these days for various products manufactured by mainly the fast moving consumer goods companies, both big and small.
In order to ensure discrete disposable of these packaging materials it should be attempted to identify the manufacturers of these packaging materials to collect these from households even in collaboration with the Corporation of the City of Panaji, various municipalities and panchayats so that the same can be recycled in a more professional segregated manner reducing the burden on the waste dumps and garbage treatment plants which cannot cope with large volume and varieties of these materials.
At least an attempt should be made in this direction so as to address the mounting quantities of these packaging materials.
Also when supplying carbonated soft drinks to bars and restaurants, supermarkets and provision stores, reusable crates of glass bottles mainly should be distributed to reduce the quantity of plastic bottles used for soft drinks.
A mechanism to dispose off packaging materials should be worked out to streamline their usage and recycling.
