Dempo Sports Club continued their unbeaten run by beating new entrants Velsao Sports and Cultural Club 6-1 in a Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium here on Thursday.
With this win, Dempo SC has nine points while Velsao Sports and Cultural Club are yet to open their account.
Joaquim Abranches and Suraj Hadkonkar netted a brace each while Pruthvesh Pednekar and Velito Cruz accounted for the other
goals. Velsao’s Joesph
Pereira scored the consolation goal.
Coach Samir Naik started with the same line-up that defeated defending champions Sporting Clube de Goa a few days ago as the Golden Eagles continue to play like a well-oiled machine.
On the other hand, Velsao coach Eban Mesquita made three changes by fielding goalkeeper Suresh Lamani, Charles Miranda and U-20 forward Dylan Rodrigues.
Dempo opened their account in the 26th minute when Pruthvesh Pedenekar smartly headed in from close, off a Jessel Carneiro’s curling cross to make it 1-0.
Three minutes later, the Golden Eagles doubled their lead when striker Joaquim Abranches headed the ball into the goal off a cross from Beevan D’Mello to make it 2-0.
In the 74th minute, Velito Cruz netted the third
goal for the Golden Eagles as he dribbled past a defender and then slotted the ball into the back of the net to make it 3-0.
Velsao scored through a counter-attack with a neat finish by Joseph Pereira.
Dempo’s Suraj made it 4-1 in favour of the Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles were not content with that score and further pumped in two more goals.
Abranches registered his brace as he smartly headed Suraj’s curling cross past the Velsao keeper to make it 5-1. Suraj then netted his
brace in the added time to make it 6-1.
