The celebration of the feast of Our Lady of Hope, Patron of Chinchinim church is a big day indeed as devotees throng the venue from all the surrounding villages. The fair lasts for over a week welcoming eager buyers to spend an evening with a difference. The dogma of the Church the faithful solemnly believe that Mary was born without original sin. She was a Virgin who conceived Jesus with the power of the Holy Spirit. Service before self was her moto. The birth of Jesus in a humble manger is indication of son of God coming amongst us in a simple and humble way. She showed anguish and concern when he was lost on the pilgrimage and went in search of him. She followed Jesus in the agonizing journey of the cross to Calvary. She stood by as he was crucified and dying on the cross in excruciating pain and agony. The pangs of suffering are an example of ultimate love of the mother towards her son. In his dying moments Jesus made her our mother by addressing John his disciple. She seeks no glory for herself, but in all apparitions directs the attention of the faithful to Jesus and always to do his will.
The love, sacrifice, selflessness of mother Mary is an example for all of us to imbibe and live with. She gives us hope by interceding on our behalf, like she did at Cana, even without our pleading.
Mother Mary cannot just be wished away as some new denominational groups in the Church seem to suggest thus carrying on a vilification campaign about her role in the salvation of mankind. The current church has also taken a more tolerant view to accommodate with times by changing the focus predominantly on Jesus as the central figure of Christianity. BVM still in her visions around the word appears to confirm and consolidate her role, as the beloved mother of mankind too passing on the message of salvation to all.
