GCZMA team inspects Tiracol hotel

A team of the Goa coastal Zone Management Authority recently conducted a site inspection of an alleged illegal hotel constructed within 100 mts of the high tide line in Tiracol.

The inspection was conducted consequent on the direction of the National Green Tribunal issued on December 14 to file a 'compliance report'.

Goa Environmental Action Group (GEAG) member Savio Rodrigues had approached the NGT to stop illegal construction of the hotel which comprises 20 rooms, independent villas and a swimming pool. The GEAG has alleged that the hotel project is totally illegal as no permissions were obtained prior to construction.

The GCZMA team consisted of Fletcher and Shirodkar while the complainant was accompanied by Floriano Lobo, general secretary of the GEAG.

Following an altercation at the site Rodrigues filed a complaint with the police claiming that the son of Diogo Constance D'Souza, who is in possession of properties under Survery Nos. 15(1A) & 15/2 verbally abused him. Pernem police have registered a non-cognizable offence.
