Developmental works have been launched in the port town of Vasco with much fanfare. However, the work of laying new drains in the city is moving at a snail’s pace. It has been more than a month since the work of laying of the drain along the Swatantra Path had commenced. But for some unknown reason the work has come to a complete halt for more than two weeks. Mud which has been dug up covers a major portion of the pavements which makes it difficult for the pedestrians, especially the elderly and children, to walk on. A fall due to the uneven surface is a possibility. There is not much space available to park vehicles. Once the rains come pouring down the work will be delayed still further. The delay in completing cannot be attributed to lack of funds. It is pertinent to note that Rs 140 crore has reportedly been sanctioned by the central government for carrying developmental work in the port town. The local MLA needs to personally look into the matter and ensure that the work is completed at the earliest.
