Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar insists that the IT Park project at Chimbel is still in the planning stage and also that the project is not exclusively for the locals but for the entire state. Even if that wasn’t obvious, the government has to rethink the whole create employment for locals and then have companies come in and find them inexperienced
or not qualified enough.
For starters, the IT Park is going to be built on three lakh square metres. In the larger scheme of things, that is not a very large area of land. But it doesn’t matter since the big guns like Google, Facebook, etc, will think twice about coming to Goa, when they can have far better facilities and standard of
operations in cities like Bengaluru. So perhaps the government
would be better off in creating facilities to house Goan
entrepreneurs and small-scale IT industries in this IT Park.
This would not just create more employment but also give all
Goan tech entrepreneurs a chance to co-exist in one space.
The IT Park needs to come together with experts in the industry,
and locals too, as part of an advisory panel. In cases like
this, working in isolation doesn’t help the government.
