Pleasing Delhi
We have been told that DefExpo will bring in revenue to the tune of Rs 100 crores. Now is revenue the criteria for holding the Expo? We are also been given to understand that infrastructural requirement for DefExpo includes supply of portable water of about seven lakhs gallons per day. When Goans do not get sufficient water it is foolish on the part of government to hold such expos that make use of our scarce resources .Depriving Goans to please the Delhiwallahs seems to be the mantra of this government. Time the government realizes that the people in Delhi do not have a vote in Goa.

Clean the state
The initiative by the Mapusa Municipal Council to start fining people for dumping garbage needs to be implemented all over Goa, especially in villages where many people dump their garbage in creeks and deserted fields. But what is more important is the participation of locals who should say something when they see people throwing their garbage illegally. The standard reply by the offender is ‘tumka kitem?’, but if all of us assume that it doesn’t affect us and hence we should not say anything then Goa will not get better. We have a big garbage problem and we must take steps to start cleaning up our roads. The government must start giving financial awards and subsidies to colonies and panchayats that can clean up their areas well. This is the only way forward.

Save Goa
During the Cold War, when Russia were trying to set up a base in Cuba, the United States gave them a warning and warned them not to cross the line into American waters. Russia carried on despite the warning and their naval flotilla reached that invisible line. The American naval command was waiting on orders from their commander in chief. When then President John F Kennedy heard about this, he said, “They are at our door. Shall we wait until they get into our house? No destroy them.” I ask the same question as the BJP are destroying Goa. Shall we wait until they are completely finished? No, let us march into the streets and save what is left. Late parties
The villagers of Morjim have asked for a curbing of late night parties due to the fact that children have exams. The beach areas of Anjuna and onwards to Morjim see a lot of parties being organized that go on into the night, often ending in the morning. This certainly is a nuisance. In Anjuna, many locally owned businesses and businessmen fund these parties. This should certainly be stopped. But, at the same time, what about tourism? We have to find a balance between respecting the citizens of this state but at the same time running a successful business. Tourism cannot suffer. So, the government must find areas where parties can be held, that are away from residential areas and so do not disturb locals.
