The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has tightened the screws ahead of the April 1 SSC examination, and has warned students against carrying any electronic devices to the examination hall. In a fast evolving tech-world where students are engaged in fancy gadgets that could be conveniently misused to store data and notes, only to be used for reference or copying inside the examination hall, the Board’s move is a step in the right direction. Goa Board must carry this directive forward and screen students thoroughly for gadgets before they enter the examination hall.
The Board, in another move to check foul play during exams, has also warned that late arrival for exams by 30 minutes will disqualify the student from appearing in that subject. In the same vein, early exit after completion of the paper is also disallowed to avoid malpractices like paper leakage. The moves appear significant at a time when paper leaks and mass copying have been almost like a trend across the nation. While the Board is probably yet to deal with the occasional faulty questions being thrown at students answering the exams, it has certainly managed to provide a level playing field in terms of conducting the exams.
