The Jawahar Bagh incident in Mathura, UP is another example of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s inability
to get a firm grip on the law and order situation in the state. The Swadheen Bharat Bubhash Sena (SBBS) managed to evade scrutiny of government and were allowed to occupy government land, gather a large cache of arms, and stockpile material to build bombs. All this happened while the government slept. Even before making an assault on the group, the police had sent 40 intel reports indicating that the Sena was
armed to the teeth and a larger police force would be required, but the government sat on the reports. When the final assault was made, the police were not adequately prepared for resistance. Only a through probe into the incident will bring out the facts, especially the circumstances that led to the fiasco and death of 24 persons. But more importantly, a probe needs to be instituted into the failings of the government and ascertain how a group as dangerous as the SBBS was allowed to take root in Mathura. UP has been in the limelight, but for all
the wrong reasons “ 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots and last year’s
lynching of a man in Dadri for possessing beef. Akhilesh Yadav
needs to pull up his socks if he wants to shed the label of
a poor administrator.
