Patience seems to be running out for former PWD Minister Churchill Alemao, who is desperately seeking a Congress ticket to fight the 2017 assembly election. The Benaulim strongman says he has waited long enough, but now it’s time to take a call on his political future if the Congress is not interested in giving him the ticket. AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh has made the Congress stance very clear, stating that chargesheeted persons will not be considered. This is the second time that Digivijaya is saying this, virtually snubbing Alemao and shutting the door on his face. Churchill has sent out a strong message to the party leadership in Delhi and in the State that a decision should be arrived at by September-end. Alemao’s argument is that he is not the lone chargesheeted member. What Churchill must understand that he is in no position to question the Congress policy vis-a-vis allocation of tickets. That too, at a time when the party is sharply divided over tickets amid a serious debate over old or new faces. With elections not too far, Churchill’s political opponents have swung into action in preparation for the 2017 battle. With time running out, it’s time Alemao puts his Plan B into operation and gets into poll mode instead of playing the waiting game.
