Even as the UN mulls on slapping North Korea with a fresh round of heavy sanctions, for experts it seems this won't even make a dent on the communist regime's intention of developing nuclear arms. The new sanctions will cut down North's exports by a considerable level, enough to affect it economically; Kim Jong Un remains unfazed by what the UN threatens. Since his father's death, Kim has accelerated the country's nuclear programme, which resulted in three nuclear tests in the recent past. Furthermore the isolated nation has leapfrogged in developing a vehicle that can actually carry a dirty bomb to US shores. There seems to be no end to North Korea's bid to have a full fledged nuclear supremacy.
For the West and its allies, North Korea is a credible threat and ticking time bomb. Sanctions, of course, is a civil way of dealing with international nuisance and it has been tried with other nations, a way to arm twist them to ease tensions; but North Korea is a different breed of threat, one that has a nuke. Trump is clear on one particular agenda, get North Korea to back out on its nuclear programme, and if that doesn't work the US forces are not stationed too far away from North's borders. Is it likely that war will be the only way to discipline a nation that is stubborn and hell bent on destroying the West. What horror are we staring at?
