Despite limited powers and funds for sarpanchas, our NavelimVP head Bebinda Gonsalves has given herbest to the village and her ward which she is representing. We are goingthrough a difficult time on account of the Covid-19 onslaught and now thedevastating cyclone. There was complete helplessness making our livesdifficult, but the Sarpanch Bebinda stood like a rock behind all the people andhelped in whatever way possible by making arrangements for essential items,taking people to health centers for testing and vaccination, trimming ofbushes, desilting of drains and most importantly restoring electricity afterthe cyclone within a few hours.
I strongly feel the Panchayat Minister should give morefunds to the panchayats to strengthen the hands of the sarpanchas who work onthe ground. They are the ones who have to face people and their numerous calls.The sarpanchas are in the first in line to face brickbats if there is a failureon part of the government to deliver good and timely governance.
