Keeping in mind the growing population of dynamic and trendyyouth in India, the German auto major Mercedes Benz has launched its new 2012Mercedes Benz B Class sports tourer in India.
The car has a class of its own with pure refinement andluxury combined with sporty and dynamic characteristic.
With this launch, Mercedes Benz has pioneered the categoryof sports tourers in India and so far sold 75,000 plus units to theenthusiastic customers across the globe.
The luxury car matches with the temperament and lifestyle ofthe youth below 35.
In Goa, young Vidyadhar Nayak who is all of 77 is proud tobe the first owner of Merc’s B-Class Sports Tourer in the State.
“I love Mercedes andbought my first in 1960, a second hand 1958 model,” says a nonchalant Nayak.
Nayak who purchased many Mercs after his first buy in 1960,loves to gift them to his daughters and grandchildren on their birthdays.
“This is probably my eight Merc,” smiles an elderly butyoung at heart Nayak. He took the possession of the keys from Aakash Counto,Managing Director of Counto Automobiles Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of the AlconGroup at their Porvorim showroom.
Nayak was the first person in Goa to purchase a C-ClassMercedes-Benz and once again he is the first person to buy the B-Class too.
He even visited the Mercedes factory in Germany just to havea look at all the models of this luxury car.
But is there really a market for such high-end cars in Goa?
“Goa accounts 1 per cent of the Indian market and we hope tosell 500 Mercs by 2020,” said Aakash Counto who takes the credit for selling300 plus Mercs in the last two-and-a-half years.
“Now we have no cars to sell up to January 2013, as the carsare all booked and sold till December 2012,” he said.
The ex-showroom price in Goa is between Rs 22.39 lakhs to Rs25.91 lakhs for the sports variant.
With B-Class sports tourer, Merc has opened the sportsportfolio in India while Goa rolled the carpet for the first sports variant.
Over a period of time the company plans to introduce all itsmodels in the Indian market, including the diesel variants.
