Cuncolim Union hammered Holy Cross Sports Club, Arambol 4-0 in Geno GFA First Division League at Artificial Turf ground, Fatorda, on Saturday. Necil Pinto scored a brace, while Soman Mazumdar and Subham Malvankar scored one goal each.
Cuncolim Union took off on the right track against the hapless Holy Cross Sports Club, Arambol, and swarmed into the rival territory. Soman Mazumdar, Desemond Pereira and Raju Padoshi were controlling the midfield, while Necil Pinto kept defenders busy. Necil sounded an early warning when his snapshot was well-blocked by rival goalkeeper Siddharth Simepurskar.
At the other end, Holy Cross forwards hardly made an attempt at the rival goal. Cuncolim Union wasted a golden chance when Frazier Fernandes failed to beat the rival goalkeeper in one-to-one situation. Nearing half time, Necil Pinto muffed up the easiest chance with only rival goalkeeper to beat as he shot wide from close range.
Cuncolim Union started playing an attacking game from the very beginning of the second half and opened the scoring in the 15th minute when midfielder Soman Mazumdar gently tapped the ball home off John Khati’s pass via Desmond Pereira’s well-measured cross. Cuncolim Union doubled the lead when Necil beat the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish off a pass from Desemond Pereira.
Down 0-2, Holy Cross Sports Club went all out and pressed high when midfielder Yogesh Mayenkar waged a lone battle but hardly got any support. Meanwhile, Cuncolim Union .got their third goal when Necil slotted the ball past the rival goalkeeper Raju Khati.
In the 75th minute, Cuncolim Union increased their tally when Necil fired home off a well-measured cross from Soman Mazumdar. Captain Subham Malvankar completed the big win as Cuncolim Union took their tally to 6 points from two matches while Holy Cross suffered their second defeat from as many encounters.
