If one had to meet Vinay Pathak ‘hanging out’ (as he putsit) in his carefree best at the film bazaar, it would be a spectacle not worthmissing. Sitting under an umbrella and enjoying his favourite cocktail, he wasspotted interacting with filmmakers from other parts of the country andenjoying it. The actor best known for his comic chemistry with Ranvir Shorey andRajat Kapoor has just finished shooting for a comic thriller, ‘Gaur HariDastaan’ and is pretty excited about it. The film is based on the real lifestory of freedom fighter Gaur Hari Das and has been directed by AnanthMahadevan.
Vinay shares some details about the movie, “Gaur Hari Dasfought for India’s independence as a teenager. But when he turned forty, hediscovered that he was entitled to the status of a freedom fighter and benefitsassociated with the title. He is then made the victim of a big scam when hetries to claim his rightful freedom fighter certificate. Apart frompsychological harassment, he has to deal with several touts and middlemen onlyto realise the functioning of what can be termed as a corrupt bureaucraticsetup. This includes competing with eligible candidates (along with fake ones)claiming to be freedom fighters. It takes him thirty years to prove that he isthe real Gaur Hari Das. The film is about his struggle and the understanding ofIndia- the country that he had fought for and of what it has become now.”
Vinay plays the lead character of the freedom fighter, inthe company of Konkona Sen Sharma, who plays his wife. According to Vinay, thefilm has a great ensemble with a little bit of pathos, tragedy and comedy.Vinay adds, “I had to do this film because I feel, as an actor, I need toexcite myself while telling a story.” The actor who turned producer with hisfilm Dasvidaniyan shares details about it which he says is close to his heart,“Dasvidaniyan was one of a kind. For actors, it is comparatively easy to singand dance but it is important to tell the story effectively. As a producer, Idecided to set a precedent and tell the story the way I want to. Also, it isnot necessary to make a serious film to say ‘I can do other kind of roles’. Itis the story that is paramount. I’m hoping my next one will be as potent, asappreciated and as significant as Dasvidaniyan.
