MARGAO
Youth of Signals, Guirdolim celebrated their foundation day on March 3 with a football match featuring Signals Veterans and Signals Bachelors at Signals ground, Guirdolim.
The match watched by a large weekend crowd saw both teams attacking right from the word go. Jaffer Yadwad in the Veterans goal pulled off a brilliant save to deny Akram Yadwad’s powerful long range effort in the 10th minute. Signal Veterans took the lead in the 25th minute through their hard-working midfielder, veteran Agostinho Antao, when he coolly tapped in the ball after being fed by his captain Ean Antao.
Changing over, Bachelors’ Irfan Yadwad had three shots on target but was denied by the ever alert Veterans goalkeeper Jaffer. In the final minute of the match, a rasping drive by Irfan Yadwad gave no chance to the diving Jaffer, thus allowing Bachelors to draw level. In the resulting tiebreaker, Cyrus Amla saved the 8th spot kick to help the Bachelors team emerge
victorious.
Chief guest Sudesh Bhise, social worker and businessman; guest of honour, Patwin Fizardo, President of Guirdolim Club, and special invitee Alvaro Braganza Pereira gave away the prizes.
