For instance there is Ani in Armenia which was prominent in the fifth century AD and was known as the city of 1001 churches.Palmyra in Syria was known as the bride of the desert and was a caravan city for travellers crossing the Syrian desert. There there is Ephesus in Turkey which was founded by the colonist in Athens in 10th cy AD and known for the Temple of Artemis, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
