Getting 17 teams comprising players hailing from different villages in Goa to participate in a football tournament abroad is an achievement in itself.

The all-Goa Inter Village Ramadan Tournament at Dubai, an annual event organised by the United UAE Goans for several years, has managed to do just that. The tournament kicked off on March 24 and the finals due to take place on April 22.

PROMINENCE

The all Goa Inter Village Ramadan Tournament is considered one of the most prestigious events in the calendar that is organised and run by all the team managers from the United UAE Goans. It is literally a world cup of all football tournaments in Dubai. The main sponsor for this year is Nelson Silveira and family along with other co-sponsors and benefactors.

The tournament brings together teams from different villages in Goa to compete against each other for the ultimate prize. This tournament has become an important part of the Goan Community in Dubai, with many people coming out to watch the games and support their favourite teams.

Allen Patrick Fernandes, one of the committee members, said this tournament has become an important event in Dubai.

“It provides an opportunity for young footballers to showcase their talent and for people from different villages in Goa to come together during the holy month of Ramadan. The tournament has helped to promote the love and passion for the game of football in Dubai and it is sure to continue to do so for many years to come,” said Fernandes.

PARTICIPATION

This year, there are around 17 teams participating in the tournament. Each team is made up of players from different villages in Goa.

The team managers scout for good and talented players from Goa who are looking to build their career in Dubai by providing jobs for them and at the same time, giving them the opportunity to play competitive football.

Last year’s winners Castle Boys Mapusa will be looking to defend their title this year.

Team Owner Savio Cardozo and his management team said they have brought in new signings to their team, which will add strength and depth to their squad.
