Dozen COTPA violation cases booked in Vasco

The Mormugao Taluka Enforcement Squad on Friday morning booked 12 cases for violation of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act 2003 (COTPA) and recovered fines of Rs 2,400 from restaurants, banks, fast food kiosks and grocery stores, during inspections in Vasco.
The Squad which was led by Rosario Carvalho Mormugao Jt Mamlatdar-I and GOACAN Coordinator Roland Martins also included Circle Inspector Surendra Kerkar, UDC Prakash S Dyawannawar, UHC Sanitary Inspector Dayanand Thakkar and a police constable from Vasco Police Station.
During the inspection, the Squad also found in some establishments that the No Smoking signage was not properly displayed as required under COTPA.
A report of the inspection will be submitted to the South Goa District Collector Asvin Chandru A, IAS and Dr Sarah George, Member Secretary District Level Coordination Committee for COTPA at the next quarterly review meeting.
