A wonder born out of mother’s love

“It’s been a beautiful journey from a home to a home cafe and a home-stay” ” Poonam Khanvilkar and Kenneth Lopes

Agatha Christie says, “A mother’s love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity, it dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path”.

This was proved right when Kenneth and Poonam’s daughter baby Kate Marie unknowingly ate a rotten pastry from one of the bakeries.

From then on, there was no turning back and so began a mother’s journey to bake the best pastries and cakes for her baby, her family and her friends. Slowly and steadily baking lead to cooking and the footfall slowly started increasing as people understood the concept and appreciated what was being sold. Thus rose ‘Kmarie’ named after their darling daughter Kate Marie, who even today has the permission to eat any cake or pastry she wants at any time of the day. The core idea behind Kmarie was to offer the homemaker the opportunity  to take a break from the kitchen and enjoy a hearty sumptuous Sunday  morning breakfast with family and friends. That explains the higher  crowds on Sunday, and the reason why Kmarie takes its weekly off on  Mondays.

Experience: Coming to food, I generally try Batata Poha, Batata Bhaji or Ros Omlett  when visiting any eatout for the first time, but here I decided  on the  Amritsari chole and puris.  Chole involves Kabuli Channa cooked onions,  tomatoes, and dash of ginger. All that is cooked in pure ghee, which  brings the unique Amritsar flavour. Plus, here the Chole had special  spice made by Poonam, and the dish did not disappoint.

Next,  I  picked a chocolate brownie which sat pretty looking at me from the  pastry counter. The cafe also offered sizzling brownies and home-made  delicacies such as ice-cream, salted caramel, Belgian chocolate sauce  among others. Frankly speaking, I am not exactly a chocolate person, but  the chocolate brownie was almost addictive, and my newfound love for  chocolate did not end there. I went on to top off my delighting brunch  with a chocolatechip shake. This was a really tough test for Kmarie, and  the eatery managed to pass that too! Packing the goodness of homemade  chocolatechip cookies and Belgian chocolate sauce, the shake also had no  preservatives, and would certainly prove to be a feast for a chocolate  fan.
