The Goan and Konkani-speaking Catholic community in Kuwait came together in faith, unity, and gratitude as they celebrated the solemn feast of St Francis Xavier ‘Goencho Saib’ at the Holy Family Co-Cathedral, Kuwait City.

The Feast, marked by a High Mass and attended by a sizeable congregation, reflected the deep love Goans across the world hold for their patron and missionary saint.

Fr Orfin Menezes was specially flown in from Goa to preside as the main celebrant at the Eucharistic celebration. His presence brought a strong emotional connect to the homeland, rekindling memories of traditional Goan celebrations.

Fr Orfin delivered a heartfelt and powerful homily, praising the exemplary life and missionary zeal of St Francis Xavier. He highlighted the saint’s compassion, service to the poor, commitment to spreading the Gospel, and his unending love for the people of Goa – values that continue to inspire Catholic faithful around the globe.

The celebration was concelebrated by four esteemed priests based in Kuwait: Fr Gaspar Fernandes (Parish Priest), Fr Antony Lopez (Judicial Chancellor), Fr Darrel Fernandes (Parish Priest, Minor Basilica, Ahmadi) and Fr Avil Manoj Rosario (Abbasiya Church).

Their collective presence added grace and fervour to the occasion, symbolising unity among the parishes in Kuwait. The celebration resounded with soulful harmony by the St Joachim & Anne’s Choir, led by Mario Fernandes and Maestro Shahu.

Following the Solemn Mass, snacks were served to parishioners, creating a warm community gathering reminiscent of festive traditions back home.

Carmo Santos, Dominic Fernandes, Cyril Lobo and Peter Joseph, popular and hardworking members of the Konkani community, were acknowledged for their dedicated efforts and arrangements to make the Feast a memorable celebration.

The feast of Goencho Saib in Kuwait once again proved that distance can never diminish devotion. Across seas and continents, the legacy of St Francis Xavier continues to unite Goans, strengthening their identity, culture, and shared spiritual heritage.
