LONDON
The Goan Swindon Association (GSA), a body representing Goans living in Swindon UK, will be hosting a number of events this year.
“We are determined to celebrate our traditions to promote culture through festivities and events in 2024 after a successful 2023, raising the much-needed funds towards a Goan centre,” said Rolan Afonso of the GSA.
The GSA will host the annual Summer Festival 2024 in July, with mega performances from top bands from GOA and UK, to showcase Goan music, art and culture. This yes, the Summer Festival will feature the band “The 7 Notes”.
“’SeptemberFest’ is another event we have brought together since 2023 featuring the band ‘Black in White’ in our first edition. This event is to promote our young talent performing alongside professional bands and DJ’s.”
The GSA will host its annual Christmas Dance on December 25, an event which has been celebrated every year for nearly two decades.
“We aim to cater to all ages and sections of our community bringing more events to engage our youth and the elderly through our events. We also wish more Goans to come forward and volunteer alongside the committee, to help us prosper in keeping our identity and culture alive,” Rolan added.
With Swindon home to thousands of Goans, the need was felt to have an association to represent the Goan community, to celebrate Goan identity and to support Goans based in Swindon.
Since its formation in 2001, the GSA has been at the heart of the Goan community and fostering a sense of social and cultural belongingness for Goans located far away from Goa.
