A Goan has been elected chairperson of the premier accounting body, the Kuwait Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (KCICAI).

Rabindranath (Rabin) Gonsalves was nominated as chairperson of the chapter, which has a membership of 450+ Indian chartered accountants. The core activities of the KCICAI towards its members include education, training, technical support and advocacy. The chapter is also registered with the Indian embassy in Kuwait.

Hailing from Majorda, Rabindranath’s parents are Castelo and Elsa Gonsalves. He graduated from SS Dempo College of Commerce and then did his chartered accountancy training with Deloitte in Goa.

After working in Goa for a while, Gonsalves joined the accounting firm KPMG at its Kuwait office. He is currently employed as Assistant General Manager Finance with the Gulf Bank.

The KCICAI held its Annual General Assembly meeting on June 3 at Crowne Plaza and it was attended by the Kuwait-based Indian chartered accountants in large numbers.

Besides Gonsalves, the other committee members elected were Aditya Danuka (Vice chairperson), Umesh Soni (Treasurer), Rohit Agarwal (Secretary), Sweta Chipra (Excom member), Shailesh Laddhad (Excom member), Sriram Gopalakrishnan (Immediate Past Chairperson), Anup Dhand (Excom member), Venkata Raman (Excom member), Mathen Padachira (Excom member) and Jatin Bagaria (Excom member).

The elected executive committee will be assisted by members who volunteered in the various sub-committees to serve the fraternity. They are Dhruv Sharma, Andaleeb Girkar, Surin Gandhi, Kriti Buchasia, Nisha Jalan, Manish Chaturvedi, Ajay Jain, Kirti Mishra, Firoz Ali and Vipin Sharma.

The KCICAI Chairman (elect) Rabindranath Gonsalves thanked his predecessor Sriram Gopalakrishnan for his stewardship and conveyed a deep sense of gratitude to his entire executive committee for their dedicated services to the chapter and its members in the past one year.

Gonsalves shared his views on the Kuwait economy and the role of Indian Chartered Accountants and the emerging challenges of reporting and regulatory requirements.

Gonsalves also highlighted that the KCICAI facilitates the conduct of the Indian

Chartered Accountancy examinations in Kuwait and encouraged aspirants to take advantage of the same.

‘KCICAI plays vital role in Kuwaiti economy’

The Kuwait Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (KCICAI) Chairperson Rabindranath Gonsalves has said members of the Kuwait Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (KCICAI) play a vital role in the Kuwaiti economy.




“The Kuwait Chapter of ICAI shall continue to aspire to provide high-quality continuing professional education programmes and will strive to maintain its pre-eminent position in the local business community by upskilling its members to meet the latest economic and regulatory challenges and requirements,” said Gonsalves.

He mentioned that the members of the KCICAI occupy key positions in auditing & advisory, banking, finance, investments, risk management, insurance and accounting sectors in Kuwait.

Believing the economy would gradually recover to its pre-pandemic levels, Gonsalves emphasised that the chapter will also continue to work closely with the Kuwait Accountants and Auditors Association (KAAA), the local body for the regulation of the accountancy and audit profession in Kuwait.
