CalifornianGoans celebrated World Goa Day with a picnic at Don Castro Valley, Whispering Creek, California, USA, bringing the Goan community together to celebrate culture, traditions, music, food, and spirit of Goa.
The celebrations included a fancy dress competition for kids and adults, an open mic for various talents, games, food and drinks.
A special highlight of the celebration was the presentation ‘Pausacho Purument’, showcasing a Goa’s traditional way of life and preserving those memories for the younger generation.
As part of ‘Pausacho Purument’, the cooking team also gave the children a live demonstration of how traditional Goan sausages are made, giving them an opportunity to learn about and experience Goan culinary traditions first-hand.
“It was a wonderful day filled with fun, laughter, and togetherness. Our team put in a tremendous effort to make the celebration special, organising an opening song, dances, games, fancy dress competitions, open mic singing, live on-site cooking, and a creative Goan-themed setup,” said CalifornianGoans President Phillip Lopes.
“Everyone had a fantastic time, and it was truly wonderful to see our Goan culture, traditions, and community spirit alive and thriving here in California.”
Lopes thanked the entire team for their hard work, creativity, and dedication, and to everyone who participated and joined in making the celebration a memorable event.
Lopes said the CalifornianGoans will be celebrating its 20th anniversary, having started with a Christmas event in 2006.
“We have good committee and the association is involved in different activities like religious, cooking, games/sports and social media. Our next event is the Feast of St Francis Xavier in December,” said Lopes.
