Goans celebrate ‘Carnaval 2026’ in Mumbai

MUMBAI

The vibrant spirit of carnival came alive at the Party Lounge, Kandarpada, Dahisar West, Mumbai, on February 8 from 10.30 am onwards, as Susegad Goans Borivli hosted a colourful and high-spirited ‘Carnaval 2026’ celebration to celebrate togetherness, culture and joy.

The festivities began on a grand and joyful note with the ceremonial entry of King Momo and Queen Mimi ” Brendan Fernandes and Lorraine Fernandes ” whose presence instantly set the mood for revelry and celebration.

This was followed by a serene and meaningful opening prayer by Romano Fernandes, grounding the celebration in gratitude and unity. Soon after, King Momo delivered the opening remarks and officially declared ‘Carnaval 2026’ open, ushering in an atmosphere of cheer, excitement and togetherness.

The celebration gathered momentum with a lively dance performance set to peppy Goan music, choreographed by Ginny Rodricks. The performance energised the audience and perfectly set the tone for a day filled with fun, laughter and festive spirit.

Adding a delightful Goan flavour to the festivities was a creative and interactive game segment, where participants enthusiastically enacted traditional Goan characters ” Fishermen (Nustekar), Feni distiller (Cazcar), Coconut tree climber (Reinder), Bread man (Poder), and the Sausage (Chorizo) seller. This segment transported everyone straight to the heart of Goa, celebrating its culture, traditions and vibrant way of life.

The energy continued to soar with non-stop music by ‘Band 24’, keeping the dance floor buzzing and alive, while the compere Renita Fernandes kept the momentum high throughout the event.

The enthusiasm of the participants was truly unstoppable, with high spirits flowing freely as everyone danced, laughed and celebrated together.

The Susegad Goans Borivli committee thanked everyone who joined in for the ‘Carnaval 2026’ and making it an unforgettable mid-morning to afternoon celebration. The sea of vibrant carnival colours, infectious festive vibes, and boundless enthusiasm made the event a visual and emotional delight. The committee also expressed its gratitude to the sponsors for their generous support.

This was followed by a Vote of Thanks proposed by Maria Fernandes and a meaningful Grace before Meals by Pritie D’Souza, bringing the formal proceedings to a fitting close. Thereafter, the participants helped themselves to a sumptuous meal by Olive Caterers.

The core team of Susegad Goans Borivli, comprising Olivia Verdes, Renita Fernandes, Ginny Rodricks, Pritie D’Souza, Brendan Fernandes, Maria Fernandes, and Romano Fernandes, was praised for their dedication, coordination and tireless efforts behind the scenes, making the carnival celebration truly special.
