LONDON
The spirit of community and cultural pride was on full display as the Goans in Ireland participated with great enthusiasm at the St Patrick’s Day parade in Tallaght, South Dublin, on Tuesday.
The presence of a troupe from the Goan Association Ireland added a unique multicultural dimension to the celebrations, highlighting the growing bonds between the Goan and Irish communities.
“What made the occasion even more remarkable was the participation of Goans who travelled from distant parts of Ireland just to be part of the celebrations. This strong sense of belonging and cultural pride was evident in every aspect of the event,” said Milton Vaz, president of the Goan Association Ireland.
The performance of the Goan troupe proved infectious, drawing admiration not only from spectators but also from participants of other groups. The passion and commitment of the Goan youth stood out throughout the event. Their efforts, guided and supervised by Marilyn Carvalho and Sima D’Souza, ensured that the Goan float was lively and coordinated. Traditional Goan dances such as Kunbi, Dekhni, and Corrudinho were performed with passion by both young and old participants.
The choreography, led by the Goan youth, showcased their creativity and dedication to preserving their cultural heritage. The lively energy of the performers drew admiration from other participating groups, further enhancing the festive atmosphere.
Adding to the festive atmosphere were Goan snacks provided by Rollyson Luis and Venisa’s kitchen. Attendees also enjoyed special ‘kadak tea’ prepared by Sonal Fernandes, along with soft drinks served after the performances, creating a warm and welcoming environment for all.
“Overall, the event was a memorable celebration of culture, unity, and friendship. The Goan community’s participation in the 2026 St Patrick’s Day parade in Tallaght marked another meaningful step toward cultural exchange and integration, strengthening ties with the Irish community while proudly celebrating their own rich heritage,” said Aldrin Coutinho, attorney of the association.
The Goan Association Ireland conveyed its heartfelt appreciation to the committee, the advisory board, ambassadors, and executive members, and all members of the community who contributed to making the event a success, demonstrating unity and dedication in bringing the community together.

Milton also expressed his gratitude to Canzio De Melo, a strong supporter of the association, for offering both his professional expertise and assistance whenever it was needed most.
“Canzio has generously provided his DJ services free of cost and has gone the extra mile by involving his associates—even from overseas—to arrange music whenever required,” said Milton.
THE ASSOCIATION
Founded in 2023, the Goan Association Ireland is a non-profit organisation which plays a key role in supporting Goans as they settle into life in Ireland. The association assists newcomers in adjusting to their new environment while fostering a strong sense of community.
“The association organises a variety of events throughout the year, including social gatherings, parties, Tiatr performances, Masses, and trips to Knock Shrine. These initiatives are largely driven by the cultural and spiritual needs of Goans living in Ireland,” said Milton Vaz.
The Annual General Meeting (AGM), held earlier this month, marked an important milestone where the association’s charter was discussed and key leadership roles were formalised. Founder Ajoy Fernandes was nominated as the Honorary President in accordance with the charter. Milton Vaz was elected President, while Joicee Fernandes and Noel D’Souza were elected as Vice Presidents. Dominic D’Souza took on the role of Treasurer, along with other members elected to important positions. Ambassadors were also appointed across various counties to carry forward the mission of the Goan Association Ireland at a local level.
“The Association has maintained active engagement with the Indian Embassy and regularly participates in events organised by other Indian state associations. Plans are underway to meet with Embassy officials in the near future to highlight and address the immediate needs of the Goan community in Ireland,” said Milton.
In a forward-looking initiative, the Goan Association Ireland has also introduced a Gen Z group comprising young and dynamic Goans. This group will be mentored and groomed to take on future leadership roles within the Association, ensuring continuity and growth.
“It reflects a vision where the dreams and aspirations of young Goans in Ireland can flourish, with the hope that one day they will lead and shape the future of the Goan-Irish community,” added Aldrin.
