There are a lot music-lovers who love tunes from 40s and 50s out there, but there is rarely an event dedicated to such music. Now to change that, Gregg Furtado and Raul D’Mello have come together to host an event titled ‘Classic Circus’ on Sunday, May 26, at Favela Bar and Kitchen in Baga.
Gregg is the owner of Favela, and Raul has a band called ‘Raul and Friends’, which he will be performing this Sunday at Favela. The idea of having an event such as this hit Raul when he thought that Goa has everything to do with party life but sadly there’s hardly anything for the middle aged people .
Both Gregg and Raul were travelling in Philippines when this idea came to them and they promptly put together the entire concept of ‘Classic Circus’. Raul is a huge admirer of Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, Billy Joel and Beatles.
Although he has performed acts as a tribute all around the world, he feels that there is a much left to be done in Goa when it comes to great classics. This is when they thought of targeting people in 40 plus age group because they will relate to this music the most.
Raul also hopes that the event will educate the younger audience about old classics, which have created an impact and left a huge legacy for the future. What is really exciting for music-lovers is the fact that the band ‘Raul and Friends’ is packed with talented musicians.
On keys, there will be Daryl Rodrigues, who has played with big Indian artists like Louis Banks, Leslie Lewis and Hariharan. On bass, there will be Diego Fernandes, who is a hugely famous bass player and is also the founder member of the world famous Goan band called ‘The Syndicate’.
On drums, there will be Jonathan Dias, who has also been the drummer for the legendary Remo Fernandes. Last but not the least, there will be Raul D’Mello on vocals. Raul has been part of many acts, but the most coveted part of his career was when he opened end concerts for Ricky Martin and Diana King.
Classic Circus is not a one-off event, as the organisers plan to take this concept forward. So, if you want to listen to classics by a talented musicians, head to Favela this Sunday.
