The Goan Welfare Association (GWA) has called off the 26th Annual May Queen Ball in Qatar due to the current Middle East crisis.
The 26th Annual May Queen Ball was scheduled to be held on May 8 at the Radisson Blu Hotel Doha, with a top Goan band, an international DJ, Bollywood celebrities and guests from overseas, including ministers, diplomats and MLAs, expected to grace the event.
“Bringing top artistes from India right now is possible, and authorities in Qatar accepted to grant necessary permissions for the event, but the reality is uncertainty in flights and airline costs are at an all-time high to cater to the community,” explained GWA President Simon D’Silva.
“Also, sponsors and well-wishers requested my team and I to cancel the event this year and have a mega blast next year. Though it was a lot of hard work, meticulous yearlong planning and dedication, the situation is unpredictable to hold such a magnificent event during the wartime."
D’Silva said that next year the May Queen Ball 2027 will have double excitement and entertainment.
“The organising team will put maximum efforts into bringing bigger artistes and bigger energy of music, entertainment and cultural pride. The next upcoming event of GWA is the Sao Joao Celebration to be held on June 26,” said D’Silva.
