Tiatr Mogi
Khursachi Vatt an ideal tiatr in the Lenten mould by Willy Silveira, gives the audience a platform to contemplate and reflect on the sufferings of our Lord vis a vis their own sufferings in day to day life.
Script
The script is simple and the storyline catchy. However the comedy is in the non stop style having to semblance to the main plot. Further Biblical scenes pertaining to the passion of Christ are interspersed in between the acts. However if the passion of Christ could be linked with the story of the tiatr it could have taken the performance to a different level. The non connection of the Biblical scenes with the happenings on stage is the only drawback of the lenten script.
Comedy : The tiatr features good decent and modest comedy. However a few comedy sequences could be avoided or better thought of. Comedy is best when its brisk crispy and in few select words. However some scenes unnecessarily dragged and in the bargain the beauty in the comedy was missed. This was in particular with some scenes of comedian Jesus.
Sets
The Sets were good. But the problem is that the same pattern is seen for every other tiatr staged in the auditorium. So there was nothing special about what was on display to the eyes. Nevertheless the sets displayed the backround of the plot and status of the family.
Acting
Acting is the strength of this tiatr. Shanaya after a good innings in the Kala Academy Tiatr competitions carries forward all her experiences of acting in ‘art’ dramas into commercial dramas and carves for herself a place of pride in the hearts of the audience. Her natural acting and modulated dialogue delivery is a lesson for all the so called kings and queens with titles in the industry. Shanaya is definitely a ray of hope on tiatr for the audience fed up with typical shouting on tiatr stage.
Willy Silveira the chocolate hero has once again chocolates to offer in his natural portrayal of the hapless father caught between the devil and the deep sea. The young boy Joshua after a beautiful debut in a tiatr earlier, is quite effective in his portrayal. Reggie as Reagan. Peter de Benaulim as the doctor, Roshan as the mother are convincing in their portrayal of roles.
Music/songs
The band comprises of a talented set of musicians led by the young musician Selvyn. The tiatr starts with a very pleasing opening song sung in style by Scully and Willy. Though the rendition was great and applauded it was crooned as in a musical band show and not sung as is traditionally done in a tiatr.
With all emphasis on crooning there was no scope for expressions and contact with the audience. Songs by Rosario de Benaulim, Peter-Roshan, Evaristo de Arambol, Michael de Chandor, the little boy Joshua were great.
Direction
Willy Silveira carried a lot of expectations with him and the audience were not disappointed on that count. It was an all-round presentation with excellence seen coming from all departments. Definitely not the best among Lenten shows performed this season but it is a tiatr in the right mould that can be termed as Lenten.
