Monsoon moanings

Monsoon moanings
Captured by : Sunday pg 4 - hacks

Yes, the weather is nice and cool and it's simply beautiful to watch the rain peltering down. But the rainy season also brings along with it a whole new set of worries. Here's a few hacks to make sure you enjoy this season better

It's difficult to carry around your much needed electronics while making sure that they aren't exposed to even a few drops of water. But make life simpler by encasing them in plastic bags especially those with a zip lock. Even if your device has a touch screen, chances are high it will work just as well through the plastic too. However if they do by chance get wet, don't panic. Turn them off at once and dry them with a towel. Then take a large bowl of raw rice and keep your gadget in it for 34-48 hours. The rice will soak up all the moisture and restore your device.

If you haven't managed to find time to buy those rainwear shoes you've been meaning tobuy and have no choice but to step out in your other shoes, well, you can make them waterproof! All you have to do is rub beeswax generously all over them, blow dry it so that it melts and then leave it aside for 30-45 minutes.

Getting rid of odours from your rainy shoes is especially a bothersome task. However make sure that you clean not just the outside of the pair but also the inner walls and soles. Kepp 2-3- paper napkins inside them for a few minutes and then sprinkle talcum power in them to absorb the moisture. This way, you will avoid infections and fungal growth on your feet.

Rains often lead to a cold and cough. Make sure you don't fall ill but sipping on a cup of hot lime water with half a pod of ginger and 2 spoons honey. And if it's mosquitoes that are worrying you, try keeping your home smelling citrusy as mosquitoes absolutely hate it. Just slice up a lemon or two and place them on a dish near your window. You could also try keeping a bunch of cloves.

Did the rains cause a stain on your white top. Fret not. Put a white towel on the ironing board and place your top on it with the stain facing downwards. Then sponge it with a damp cloth and iron. Move your top to a dry part of the towel and repeat again until the stain has vanished. The towel absorbs the stain.

How far is too far?

Pondering while looking out of the window on a rainy day is one of life’s simple pleasures. As I sit here, going over the day that was, I can’t help but allow my mind to float back to the two extremes I encountered over the span of a few hours. On one hand, a parent we could not get in touch with for days, who hadn’t met with the child’s teachers in years, and on the other extreme, a mother who knew absolutely everything about her son and scarily, more than I found necessary…
