Ragan Fulam Mogan Kantte A saga of love and betrayal

The tiatr examines parents’ pressure on kids for choosing life partner and looks at the role of love and money in life

Tiatr Mogi

Love conquers. Love forgives. Love gives you a purpose to live. But when your love life becomes the purpose of your living and when your world collapses on account of betrayal that is difficult to comprehend and accept, what is your fate?

Parental pressure on children for the selection of a life partner mars a relationship. Love not getting a parental nod is understandable when a companion is seen as an omen for their offspring but does money still matter so much to parents to invite unwanted trouble for their children in a forced marriage?

The audience are bound to get struck with these questions as they watch the tiatr Ragan Fulam Mogan Kantte written and directed by Jose de Benaulim, a relatively new tiatrist in the professional tiatr arena.

Script

The storyline has a great drama in it. The twists and sequences of that are created in development of the storyline are amazing and too dramatic at times melodramatic. The proceedings at times defies logic but then logic has seldom been the forte of professional tiatrs and tiatrists! But the script has a great vocabulary. The dialogues have a literary taste that makes the presentation very interesting.  It’s a fine writing.  But the presentation of the tiatr has been done in the non-stop format. The comedy has no bearing on the main story line. It runs parallel to the main plot. The cantos too are interesting and pleasant.

Comedy

The comedy has no relevance to the main story line and this feature gives it the feel of a non stop drama. The comedy, however, is clean and decent. The comedians don’t have a rich repertoire of featuring tiatr. Though they are relatively less seen, they have managed to send the audience gasping for breath. The seasoned vulgar comedians could learn a lesson or two from these relatively less known comedians on how to entertain the audience with decent comedy and keep their spirits high with good decent humour.

Sets

Enough thought has not been given to the sets. The same curtain was used to depict a house scene in London and then later a house scene in Goa. When sets are being erected and properties are set on stage the artistes need to use the properties. But then, can an artiste use the property not belonging to the artiste?

Moreover when a statue of Christ with crown of thorns is placed outside the church, can any body touch that crown of thorns and, moreover , gift it to somebody else? Is the church property a public property for any Tom Dick and Harry to gift to anybody? The director needs to answer this.

Acting

The tiatr features a good cast. Jose as the father is very convincing. Meenakshi in the lead was great but was a little artificial in the short stint as a lunatic. Tracy Dias was the darling of the audience. Her sweet voice and modulated dialogue delivery was a treat to witness.

Baptist as the good Samaritan and a true lover was superb. Clint has a good stage personality but overacted on a lot of occasions. Angela appeared well as a mother  but needs to develop a little more in delivering her dialogues. In the comedy section Rosario  was great. He was well supported by Glanny and Succoro. But the one who rocked the comedy was Raymond, a new talent discovered and introduced on professional stage by Valency D’Souza in her Lenten Tiatr. The young lad has a lot in him to become one of the top comedians on tiatr stage.

Music/songs

The band led by youngsters Shelton and Ajiton was pleasing to the ear. The opening by Tracy Dias, Angela, Raymond and Jose was not only well composed but also sung in style, giving the tiatr an edge. There are great solos by Elaine Pinto, Tracy Dias, Jose de Benaulim, Baptist and Agusto, but these songs were crooned as in a musical show with a mike in hand and not in the tiatr style.

Mini Mario was superb in his solo. His voice and modulations were breath taking. Conception de Tuem sings two solos. The political one appeared outdated but got applause and second one was exposing the misdeeds of another tiatrist. The tiatrists had agreed to self censor their songs when the ‘slapgate’ controversory erupted. But then public memory is short and Conception is back to his antics which needs condemnation.

Direction

The direction was good. A good team work. This new director surely needs to be patronized.
