The traditional Konnsanchem Fest, which marked the cutting of the first corn, was celebrated with religious fervour, pomp and gaiety at Raia village on Saturday. After the Eucharistic celebration in the morning, the Parish Priest of Our Lady of Snows Church, Fr Leonardo Moraes led the parishioners to the the nearby field before cutting and blessing the corn at a solemn ceremony. The sheaves of the corn were later offered to Our Lady of Snows as per the tradition.The village wore a festive look on the occasion.
Raia is the first village to harvest paddy and have this Konsanchem fest and this attracts people from all over Salcete while other villages in Goa have a similar tradition later in the month. Local farmers said it is a celebration of hope and the feast brings in lots of blessings to their field for a good crop.
