Money is the root of all problems. The greed for money leads you to traverse paths that are unknown and what are the consequences faced in the bargain? A man earns through good means by working hard in any given line. The name fame and bank balance speaks volumes of his hard work for the uplift of his family.
However, the bank balance and money in hand is an easy tool in the hands of his family to spend a life of vice indulging in fun and frolic activities. The family seems to go wayward with the luxuries offered at their feet. So now who is to be blamed for the pitiable state of the family? Constantine Crasto’s tiatr ‘Padricho Sermanv Konnank’ dvelves on these questions
Script
The script written in the non stop drama format has nothing new to offer. It is the same old story that a family does not need money but it needs time for each other. The father who is the sole bread winner and works hard for his family is made the scapegoat. The father is present with the family, and involves with their everyday life. Hence what makes the writer to deduce that he has no time for the family? Shouldn’t this aspect be justified on stage? It is the wife who takes lakhs of rupees for gambling purpose from the husband and the husband readily gives it for the love of his wife.
The same is the story for the children. If so then how can the father be blamed or castigated for giving in to the needs of his family members? The writer surely needs to think beyond his present thought. After all, nobody can survive without money breathing fresh air and by downloading truckload of love!
Comedy
The comedy is presented in the non stop drama format which runs parallel to the main storyline. It is clean and decent and can be viewed with a family surrounded. The comedians too are top class and manage an intolerable wave of laughter throughout the performance.
Sets
The box sets are great befitting the status of the family. The altar place spoke about a class. But it was a pity that a businessman, a builder by profession giving thousands and lakhs for enjoyment purpose to his family members did not even have a sofa set furniture in the house. the plastic chairs kept therein were an eyesore. Comedy was performed on the blue curtain when easily the house curtain of the hall could be used. The Director needs to stretch his vision and outlook and step ahead of the mundane.
Acting
The tiatr featuresa talented set of artistes. Roshan and her hubby Peter de Benaulim have a meaty role in the tiatr. Looks like the script was written just for them and true to their reputation both have done justice to their roles. Pascoal was effective as the brother.
Ophelia D’Souza cements her place as one of the topmost female artistes of the tiatr stage with a wonderful portrayal of the character of a vice-stricken wife. But the ones who really made a difference and lifted the otherwise lackluster script is the cute and beautiful Meena Goes as the daughter and Francisco as the son. Their acting had depth. Their emotions and dialogue delivery were outstanding. Meena in particular, though having a lesser dialogue weightage, was a perfect ‘heroine’ material with her great dressing sense that was decent and yet elegant and stylish. She is definitely an artiste to watch in future! In the comedy sector.
Sally as the baker from Karwar was mindblowing. Selvy as the Goan baker too was great but Sally steals the honours in comedy. Reza as the daughter of Selvy was overdressed and shouting and in the bargain lost the punchlines. Agostinho ani Silvia assisted the star comedians well.
Music/songs
The script has lovely cantos which are melodiously sung. The band Music is great and punchy. There are beautiful solos by Xavier Gomes, Pascoal Rodrigues, Rosario de Benaulim, C D’Silva and others. A lovely duet by Peter-Roshan, which could have been better if the lyrics were purely in line with the thought and were not aimed at comedy.
Direction
The direction was good. There is a good coordination between the technical side and the artistes. Ratna gives great light effects while the background score by James
was apt. A good performance to watch.
