Goan financial expert John Furtado has been selected as the finance director of Fairfield in California.

According to a report in the ‘Daily Republic’ of Solano County, Interim City Manager David Gassaway selected Furtado as the Finance Director after an extensive search and he began his duty on July 18.

“I am excited to welcome John to Fairfield. He brings a wide variety of experience in both the private and public sectors, and his depth of knowledge will be a great fit for our ongoing mission of organisational excellence,” Gassaway was quoted in the report.

“He has managed many complex budget projects throughout his career and has demonstrated a strong commitment to financial transparency and open government. John will be a great addition to our senior leadership team.”

The ‘Daily Republic’ report states that Furtado holds a Master’s degree in Finance from Assam Don Bosco University and a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Auditing from the University of Goa.

Furtado is reported to have earned several financial certifications and designations, including Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Financial Manager (CFM), and Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

“I am excited for the opportunity to support the city manager and the organisation in implementing city council's goals and priorities while maintaining a responsive and efficient Finance Department,” said Furtado, in the ‘Daily Republic’ report.

“Fairfield is a growing city with a full-service government, and I will continue to uphold its economic diversity and transparency.”

Furtado had earlier served as finance director in the City of Los Altos, where he created improved citywide financial policies and implemented a plan for funding and maintaining the city’s new and ageing assets.
