CANACONA
In what is believed to be the last change among ruling councillors during the current term, Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) Chairperson Sara Naik Desai resigned from her post to make way for Palolem Councilor Laximan Pagui to serve as chairperson. As part of a mutual agreement among the ruling group, Naik Desai resigned after completing 14 months as chairperson. In the 12-member CMC, seven councillors had come together to form the ruling group comprising Simon Rebello, Ramakant Naik Gaunkar, Sara Naik Desai, Laxuman Pagui, Amita Pagi, Narcsisco (Nadin) Fernandes and Gandesh Madgavkar. They had agreed to rotate the posts of chairperson and vice-chairman among themselves. The term of the CMC is likely to end in March 2026 and elections will be held soon thereafter. According to reports, the 2026 municipal elections are likely to be delayed by a few months and are likely to be held in Oct 2026.
