Prominent businessman, author, regular columnist, social activist thinker and Sahitya academy awardee Datta Damodar Naik shall be publicly felicitated on his completing 70 years at the hands of Lok Sabha MP, former Union Minister, renowned author and former diplomat Shashi Tharoor. The public felicitation will take place on January 5 at 5:00 p.m at the Gomant Vidya Niketan Hall, Margao. Shashi Tharoor shall speak on the idea of India at the felicitation programme.
Addressing the media, Adv. Cleofato Coutinho said that Datta Damodar Naik has dominated social, political and cultural life in Goa for the past over three decades from his student life onwards. “He has been instrumental in building movements against communalism and hatred in society. He was the pioneer in the organization of Samata Andolan, Lokshakti and was the founder convenor of Dakshinayan Abhiyan in Goa. He has played a crucial role in building a democratic space in the state of Goa. His regular columns in local dailies and in the weeklies published from Pune like Sadhana and Antaarnad bring out his progressive outlook in society”, Coutinho said. Eminent linguist and founder of Dakshinayan Abhiyan Dr Ganesh Devi and Vinod Shirsat editor of Sadhna weekly Pune shall be special guest who shall also be speaking on the occasion. The felicitation function is organised by Dakshinayan Abhiyan Goa Unit in collaboration with Civil Society.
