MAPUSA: Dr R G Wiseman Pinto, Professor of Pathology, former Dean of Goa University and former Head of the Pathology Department at Goa Medical College, chaired two scientific sessions and delivered four talks at the 46th European Congress of Cytology held in Antwerp, Belgium, from October 4 to 7. Dr Pinto, president of the South Asian Academy of Cytopathology and Histopathology, was the only Asian member of the conference’s International Scientific Committee.
The congress, organised by the European Federation of Cytology Societies (EFCS) and the Belgian Society of Pathology, was attended by 480 pathologists from 52 countries, including 19 delegates from India. Leading the Indian delegation, Dr Pinto spoke on infectious diseases, bone tumours, paediatric pathology and cytopathology education in Asia. The delegation included professors and associate professors from Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, AIIMS institutions, PGIMER Chandigarh, SGPGI Lucknow and SMS Medical College, Jaipur.
